Tooth brush...

A variety of oral hygiene measures have been used since before recorded history. The ancient Chinese were apparently the first to use toothbrush, which they made with bristles from the necks of cold-climate pigs. The first toothbrush to resemble the modern toothbrush is believed to have been invented in China in the late 1400s. The first toothbrush in America were manufactured in the late 19th century, but toothbrush did not become a two or three times a day habit for many people until after world war II, when returning GIs brought their army enforced habits back to the U.S. by then DuPont had invented the nylon bristle, which unlike the natural bristles, dried completely between brushings and was resistant to the growth of bacteria. Nylon bristles are still used in most toothbrushes today. The first electric toothbrush was developed in 1939 in Scotland, but did not appear on the open market until the 1960s, when it was marketed as the Broxodent in the United States by Squibb In 1961, General Electric introduced a rechargeable cordless toothbrush that moved up and down when activated. In 1987, the first rotary action toothbrush for home use, the Interplak, appeared in shops for the general public. There are currently many different varieties of model that use this mechanism.

Alka seltzer rocket !!!

Turn plop, plop, fizz, fizz into whoosh whoosh, gee whiz with this alka-seltzer rocket. The rocket gets its thrust from the gas created when you drop a couple of alka-seltzer tablet into some water inside a film canister.

The type of film canister is crucial: use a fuji 35 mm plastic canister that has a lid that fits inside the canister. Canisters with lids that fit around an outside lip wont work. You will also need a couple of pieces of stiff paper, transparent tape and scissors.

To form the body of the rocket, wrap a piece of paper around the canister with the canister’s open end facing out of the bottom end of the tube. Then tape the paper in place. From a quarter-sheet of the stiff paper into nose cone.

Then trim it even on the bottom and tape it onto the top of the rocket body. To launch the rocket, fill the canister about halfway with refrigerated water – cold water is vital to successful liftoff. Drop in two alka seltzer tablets. Quickly pop on the lid, set the rocket on the ground and stand back. The gas will quickly build up pressure in the canister, causing the canister lid to pop off and the rocket rise a short distance into the air.

Adolp's Meat Tenderizer...

When Lloyd rigler and Lawrence Deutsch dined at Adolph rempp’s Los Angeles restaurant, oneAdolph’s meat tenderizer. A night in 1949, they had no clue that their fortunes were about to change for ever. But the two partners were so impressed by the tender flavorful meat that they soon bought the rights to the products now known in the united states as meat tenderizer can refer to a tool or a chemical used for tenderizing meat. The tool is also known as a meat mallet, and is a product used for tenderizing slabs of meat in preparation for cooking the meat. Generally, it looks like a hammer rows of small pyramid spikes on the ends. Tenderizing the meat with the mallet softens the fibers making the meat easier to chew. It is useful when preparing steak that is of low quality, and works well when broiling or frying the meat.

Rigler toured the country, visiting 63 cities in 60 days, demonstrating the product, winning over skeptical food critics by sending them home with tenderized meat to cook themselves. Rave reviews led to windfall sales and profits, allowing the partners to sell the business in 1974 and turn their attention to philanthropy and the arts for the rest of the lives.

The butter history.

Butter is the semi-solid material that results from churning cream – a process that is depicted on Sumerian tablet from 2500b.c. a butter- filled churn was found in a 2000 year old Egyptian grave and butter was plentiful king tut’s day, when it was made from the milk of water buffalo and camels. The bible also contains many references to butter- as the product of cow’s milk. Later, the Vikings are believed to have introduced butter to Normandy, a region world- renowned for its butter.

Typically 100 grams butter contains 81 percent fat, the balance being made up of water and milk solids. The fats can be broken down to 48 grams saturated, 21 grams mono saturated, 2 grams polyunsaturated and 4-8 grams trans fats.

Butter may be salted or unsalted, which is sweet butter. The salt adds flavor and also acts as a preservative. It takes 10 kilograms of fresh cow’s milk to make 500 grams of butter and 21 pounds to make a pound of butter. Some of the uses of butter are

· Give semi-hard cheese a light coat of butter to keep them fresh and free of mould. Each time you use the cheese, coat the cut edge with butter before you re wrap it and put it back in fridge.

· Moving is often traumatic for pets as well as family members. Here’s a good way to help an adult cat adjust to the new house or apartment: spread a little butter on the top of one of its paws. Cats love the taste of butter so much they’ll keep coming back for more.

Petroleum Jelly...

Petroleum jelly, petrolatum or soft paraffin is a semi-solid mixture of hydrocarbons originally promoted as a topical ointment for its healing properties. Its folkloric medicinal value as a "cure-all" has since been limited by better scientific understanding of appropriate and inappropriate uses. However, it is recognized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as an approved over-the counter (OTC) skin protectant and remains widely used in cosmetic skin care.

The raw material for petroleum jelly was discovered in 1859 in Titus, Pennsylvenia, United States, on some of the country's first oil rigs. Workers disliked the paraffin-like material forming on rigs because it caused them to malfunction, but they used it on cuts and burns because it hastened healing.

Although there are many generic versions of petroleum jelly, the only real major brand is Vaseline. Because of this, the online American package museum has included petroleum jelly in its collection of classic of packaging designs- a collection that also includes alka-seltzer and brayer aspirin. Why did the site include Vaseline? “Vaseline is a well- established brand with a 145-year old history,” says Ina house, who created the site. “It also seems to enjoy popularity as a cultural icon for humorous reasons. Nobody knows quite what to do with it… but nobody can seem to live without it!”

Herbal treatment and culture.

Many people think of herbs as medicine used only by alternative practitioners who don not use conventional medical practices. But in fact, herbal medicines is the precursor of modern pharmacology. Every society has relied on the healing power of herbs to treat illness and in some cultures, herbal medicines still prevails. Traditional Chinese and ayurvedic practitioners, for example continue to use ancient herbal remedies, although these may be combined with modern medical treatments. In western societies most medicines are synthesized, including many that were originally made from herbs. But there are exceptions: digitalis's, the oldest effective heart medication, is still made from foxglove; morphine and codeine are derived from opimus poppies and vincristine, used to treat leukemia, comes from the Madagascar periwinkle.

Interest in medicinal herbs has frown dramatically in recent years. Consumers now have a wide variety of herbal supplements to choose from to help prevent and treat many diseases, including heart disease, cancer, arthritis, low immunity, depression, common colds, menopausal concerns. The wonderful liquid...

There is an ongoing rancorous debate among health professionals regarding the most popular source of dietary calcium- milk and other dairy products- and how much we should consume. There are those who believe that the currently recommended three to four servings of dairy per day will help prevent osteoporosis. Others believe that our need for dairy foods is greatly overstated and that too much dairy may actually cause harm. What is clear is that an adequate intake of dietary calcium is necessary to reduce the risk of osteoporosis and milk is a convenient source, milk is a good source of protein and is fortified with vitamin d. Also , consumption of calcium in dairy products has been shown to have benefits beyond the health of your bones. It may lower the risk of high blood pressure as well as colon cancer. You can reap most of the benefits by drinking just one glass of milk per day. Other notable benefits of milk are: it is a good source of vitamins A, B12 and D, riboflavin, phosphorous, zinc and magnesium. Low fat diary products are low in cholesterol and high in protein. Thus milk is an excellent source of dietary calcium, a mineral needed to build healthy bones and teeth and to maintain many of the basic functions of the human body.

· Pure vegetables in blender or food processor, simmer them with herbs and spices and toss with spaghetti or another pasta.

· When making a cream sauce, substitute low-fat milk or evaporated skim milk for the cream.

· Toss a pasta salad with dressing made from nonfat yogurt or sour cream instead of regular sour cream or mayonnaise.
